Cruise Cost Calculator: See How Much Your Trip Will Cost

Celebrity offers free drinks in the casino while gambling, so my extra drink cost was zero. Soda costs extra on all big-ship cruise lines except Disney Cruise Line and will run you $4.50 to $6 when ordered individually. If you're addicted to Diet Coke or other soft drinks, budget for a soda package, which gets you unlimited consumption for a flat daily rate. Most cruise lines give you the opportunity to pay crew tips at the time of booking. If you choose not to pay in advance, the auto-gratuity will be added daily to your onboard bill. For comparison, my most recent Alaska cruise was a five-night sailing with only two ports of call.

Add in drinks, specialty dining, souvenirs and other expenses, and you can expect to spend around $2,500 in total. Lines that include some alcoholic drinks in the cruise fare usually offer a package to upgrade to premium drinks, which may have a broader choice of drinks or venues where they are available. An example of that is on Viking cruises, where the fare includes house beer, wine and sodas during lunch and dinner.

Costs to consider when planning a Caribbean cruise

” consider the cost of cruise tickets, then add up all the add-ons and extras to get a more realistic total. Washing a few clothing items yourself is a savvy way to save money and lower the overall cruise price. Some upper-tier loyalty program members receive free laundry service as a status perk.

Taxes and Fees (Including Port Fees)

” Here are our three top frequently asked questions to help you learn more. You can expect to be treated as a valued guest while on board with all the comforts and courtesies you’d demand from a five-star resort. Space will be abundant, food is prepared by top chefs, premium drinks are complimentary, and if you do need to ask for anything, you needn’t have to pull out your wallet.

When considering the cruise cost in its entirety, don’t forget to add on extras, like relaxing visits to the spa. Hitting the spa doesn’t mean you have to blow your budget and increase the average cost of a cruise. These can be a great way to get your drink on without spending a fortune. Holland America Line still offers daily happy hours in the Ocean Bar, for example. Many cruises also charge for soda, bottled water, certain juices and espresso-based drinks.

How to Lower Cruise Prices: How to Save Money on Photos and Camera Equipment

Disney Cruise Line is known for its family-friendly cruises complete with all of your favorite Disney characters, impeccable dining, exciting entertainment and thrilling ports of call. With everything that's included on the sailings, you might be wondering how much a Disney cruise costs — and if you can afford one. Cruise ships will do your laundry for you — for an extra fee, of course. You'll find a laundry/dry cleaning bag in your closet or in a drawer. Charges for cruise ship laundry services range from $6 per piece for washing and ironing shirts to $15 for a dress. Some cruise lines have a fill-the-bag special that allows you to stuff a laundry bag with as much as you can and pay a single price, often around $35.

If you want drinks other than at meals or that include call liquors, you can purchase a package for $25 per person, per night for the wider selection available at any bar at any time they are open. Finally, let’s consider what you’d pay for a high-end cruise on Carnival. Here, we are assuming a passenger staying in a suite aboard the newest ship and sailing at the peak of the summer season. As well, we assume a higher level of onboard spending on things like drinks, specialty restaurants and the spa. All-inclusive cruises typically include the cost of your stateroom, meals, beverages (including alcohol), WiFi,  entertainment, and onboard activities in the base price of the cruise.

Time Your Spa Visits for Discounted DaysTake advantage of spa discounts, typically offered on embarkation and port days when the spa is less busy. Check your ship's daily program for spa treatment specials that might be available one day only or during certain hours. Cruise line spas charge rates equal to high-end salons, and you might be shocked by the prices.

Still, they will have to pay the full share of port fees and gratuities. Add a third or fourth person to the room and it’s slightly different. Keep in mind this estimate doesn’t include your transportation to the port. But it gives you a good idea of what you’d spend to cruise on a budget. Here, the cost works out to about $140 per person, per day with all the costs included.

What you’ll pay will vary widely depending on the specifics of your cruise. Obviously, you should expect to pay more than a quick 3-day getaway on an older ship. If you're used to having Starbucks every morning, you might want to continue the trend onboard.

In addition to the base price, you can expect to pay taxes and port fees. Planning for all costs in advance can help you avoid surprises. Some lines, like Norwegian, are starting to move toward a la carte prices in their alternative venues. Specialty dessert venues, dinner theater, pizza delivery and even pub grub could cost extra.

Repositioning cruises (when a cruise ship sets sail from one port and arrives at another) also tend to be cheaper. Spending in Port (~$50 per port)What you spend in port can vary widely. Remember anything you eat or drink off the ship will come out of pocket and isn’t included in your cruise fare. But you should know that this doesn’t mean you’ll be spending that much each day. With the accounting rules used by the cruise lines, sometimes money spent before you get on the ship is actually classified as “onboard and other” spending. The amount varies depending on your specific route as different ports charge different fees.

All ships offer free dining in the ship's main dining room and buffet, but nearly every ship today has one or many extra-fee dining venues (specialty restaurants). First-time cruisers may want to take it slow by dipping their toes into excursions before signing up for all-day tours. Some cruise ship's packages may even come with discounts on excursions.

Technically you could sail the entire cruise and not spend a dime on the ship, but that’s not realistic for most people. Still, what’s spent on the ship will vary widely from person to person. On average, Carnival Corporation (the parent of Carnival Cruise Line, Princess and others) reports that a passenger spends about $100 per person, per day on their ships. And forget about budgeting for day-to-day expenses, as you might for other vacations. We take care of all the details so you can sit back and relax. Basic beverages, like juices, sodas, and sparkling water, are also included, as well as gratuity, so you won’t need to bust out your wallet at dinner and awkwardly play the “who pays?

Of course, those figures are averages across the entire company. Specific cruises can be much lower… or much higher… depending on your specifics. For example, sailing an interior cabin is drastically cheaper than sailing in a balcony room. And cruises departing in January or February are less expensive than sailing at the height of summer.

Carnival Cruise Passenger Dies After Testing Positive for COVID-19

” notwithstanding the fact that her symptoms began 4 days into the cruise which was consistent with the incubation period explained by the CDC which can begin as early as 2 days. Seventeen months later today, it is clear that Carnival is refusing to disclose the total number of crew and guests infected with COVID-19 on any particular cruise and is sloughing off direct responses to such inquiries from the media. It is also apparent that guests are disembarking from Carnival ships and quickly testing positive  without follow up by this cruise line.

Cruise Law News

All passengers and crew have to show proof that they’re fully vaccinated, reports said. The CDC has recently reported that 15 of the 24 ships currently sailing in U.S. waters with paying passengers have experienced outbreaks of the virus on board. "We have always required vaccinations. From our restart in July, 95+% guests have been vaccinated. We meet the definition of a vaccinated cruise," a Carnival spokesperson told NBC News' Kerry Sanders on Tuesday. "And we added the testing requirement on July 28. (August) 28 is when new guidelines for the Bahamas go into effect." Starting last Saturday, Carnival began requiring passengers to wear their masks in indoor areas. Starting this Saturday, all passengers will need to show proof of a negative COVID-19 test to board.

As cruise ship passengers and crew contract COVID-19, cruise lines upgrade their protocols

Because traveling in the era of COVID is never risk-free, up-to-date information can help travelers make better-informed decisions, taking into account their personal health status and willingness to take risks. Carnival added that "our protocols are designed to manage and mitigate COVID amongst guests and crew." So far, Carnival and other cruise lines have dealt with the cases without disrupting their ship schedules.

CORONAVIRUS - LIVE MAP OF CRUISE SHIPS AFFECTED BY NOW

Among them, there were cases involving 26 crew members and one passenger on the Carnival Vista on a recent cruise that sailed from Galveston, Texas. Marilyn Tackett, a 77-year-old from Oklahoma, tested positive aboard the ship and was admitted into a hospital in Belize, one of the ports on the cruise's itinerary. There, she was put on a ventilator after having respiratory issues, according to the Times. Celebrity is planning the first post-pandemic ship out of the US, in Florida, at the end of the month, the cruise line has said. The Celebrity Edge is set to take off from Fort Lauderdale with a fully vaccinated crew and a requirement that passengers over 16 show proof of vaccinations.

I have also heard from guests on different Carnival cruise ships who tested positive after returning home from cruises who tried to contact Carnival and had to leave a message with sales representatives that they tested positive for COVID-19. Another couple left a tweet to this effect on Twitter and commented that other guests tested positive as well. CDC protocol says at least 95% of passengers and crew must show proof of vaccination to board a cruise ship. COVID-19 outbreaks have been reported on cruise ships in recent months, despite various testing and vaccination requirements among cruise lines. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has banned vaccine passports and challenged the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidance for cruise ships. The CDC requires ships to have 98 percent of its crew and 95 percent of passengers fully vaccinated.

Is Your Cruise Ship Safe? How To Check Its COVID-19 Status

Carnival Cruise Lines previously did not require vaccinated passengers to bring a negative COVID-19 test or wear a mask, but the cruise line changed its guidelines following the positive cases. For example, six passengers on a recent Royal Caribbean International Adventure of the Seas cruise sailing from Nassau, the Bahamas, tested positive for COVID-19. Three passengers tested positive for COVID-19 at the end of the recent inaugural seven-night sailing from Port Canaveral of Carnival Cruise Line’s newest and largest ship, the Mardi Gras.

Passengers test positive for COVID on fully-vaxxed Royal Caribbean cruise

The discovery was among a series of positive COVID-19 tests among passengers and crew of ships operated by Carnival and other cruise lines in recent weeks. The CDC recommends people who go on cruises wear a mask in shared spaces and get tested one to three days before their trip and three to five days after, regardless of vaccination status. Passengers who are not fully vaccinated should also self-quarantine for at least seven days after their cruise ends, according to the CDC's website. "Carnival has implemented a suite of protocols that are designed to flex up as needed to adapt to the changing public health situation related to COVID-19," the cruise line told Insider in a statement. "We meet the standards for a vaccinated cruise as defined by the CDC, with at least 95 percent of our guests and all of our crew being vaccinated."

cruise ship covid

The appearance of COVID-19 on the Mardi Gras as cruising returned to Port Canaveral is a sign of just how precarious the restart of cruising can be. Twenty-seven people sailing on Carnival Cruise Line's Carnival Vista ship have tested positive for COVID-19. Of those who tested positive, 26 are crew members and one person is a passenger, according to a news release from the Belize Tourism Board Wednesday. After leaving one Carnival Vista passenger with COVID-19 alone in a sub-standard hospital in Belize and sailing on to the next port (Cozumel), Carnival belatedly claimed that “it was highly unlikely Ms. Tackett contracted the coronavirus aboard the ship .

Other port segments

At the Tulsa hospital, her condition worsened and she died, says an update on the crowdfunding page from August 15. That was done through a combination of 68 permanent layoffs, 17 unpaid furloughs, and not filling 30 positions that were left vacant because of retirement or employees taking jobs elsewhere. Even with the ARPA money, Port Canaveral expects to report losses of $39.48 million during the current budget year. Poole said the money will be received in monthly installments, and can be used for a variety of operating and capital expenses. The money will help cover its losses stemming from a 16½-month shutdown of the cruise industry locally because of COVID-19.

Twenty-six of those who tested positive were crew members and the other was a passenger. "The CDC’s conditional sail order and our own protocols anticipate the potential for COVID on board, and our procedures are designed to manage and mitigate any situation," Carnival said in a statement on that incident. "The health, safety and well-being of our guests, crew and the destinations we visit is our priority."

For example, he is projecting that ships sailing from Port Canaveral will operate at 50% of their double-occupancy capacity from October through December 2021. Then, he is projecting that they will operate at 75% of their double-occupancy capacity from January through September 2022. Carnival said it also has a process in place to randomly test a large percentage of its crew on a rotating basis multiple days per week, even though all are vaccinated. In the Mardi Gras incident, three Carnival Cruise Line passengers had COVID-19 on the inaugural sailing of the ship from Port Canaveral on July 31. Carnival Cruise Line failed to reveal any information regarding the number of infected guests or crew members on this ship. The two passengers are asymptomatic but in isolation while the cruise line conducts contact tracing, the statement said.

In the end, all COVID-era travel entails weighing available information in light of personal health factors and one’s tolerance for risk. The new CDC color code system for cruise ships offers one more metric to help make these tough decisions. A color-coded system developed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) can provide helpful information about the COVID-19 status of cruise ships operating or planning to operate in U.S. waters. The outbreak of 27 cases aboard the ship was discovered on the fourth day of an eight-day cruise, shortly before the ship docked in Belize.

Keeping the Driver Engaged

It’s alarming that, with the Honda and Kia systems, if a driver becomes unresponsive to warnings to put their hands on the steering wheel, the ADA systems will shut off before bringing the vehicle to a stop. Ford’s BlueCruise sets a high standard among ADA systems, aided by an infrared camera that monitors the driver’s eyes to determine whether they are looking at the road. When operating on pre-mapped highways that allow for hands-free operation, BlueCruise prompts the driver in advance of risky scenarios, such as lane merges or curves, to place their hands back on the wheel.

There are also hybrid SUVs such as the Kia Sportage and Honda CR-V for drivers wanting all-wheel drive.

When a system is controlling a car’s speed and steering, there’s a risk that its driver might feel more free to pick up a cell phone, eat a messy burger, or engage in other reckless, distracting behavior. That’s why we think it’s essential that ADA systems use direct driver monitoring systems (DDMS) to make sure the driver is paying attention to the road. A good system will encourage the driver to stay actively engaged, such as by allowing the driver to give steering inputs without fear of the LCA function shutting off. Fisher and other safety experts say that many of them are designed in a way that may lull drivers into complacency, giving them a false impression that the car is handling everything on their behalf.

However, like a stood-up date who is all dressed up with nowhere to go, you will not find Level 3-designated highways as of yet. Automotive engineers tweaked around the edges of cruise control for the next 35 years. This SQ8 e-tron is estimated to deliver 72 MPGe in the city and 75 MPGe on the highway. All-new for 2024, the Hyundai Kona has an attractive interior, good handling, and a choice of two engines. With a long list of comfort and safety features, the redesigned Kona is hard to beat.

Still, you can spend slightly more to get the optional adaptive cruise control, so driving your Kia Soul in heavy traffic doesn’t have to be tiring. Although the Honda HR-V was one of the earliest extra-small SUVs to hit the market in 2016, it didn’t get standard adaptive cruise control across all trims until 2020. When there’s a seamless collaboration between the lane centering assistance system and the driver’s own steering inputs, it encourages the driver to stay alert and in control. Volvo/Polestar’s Pilot Assist system lost points because it frequently goes into “standby” mode—which is when the system is not giving steering assistance—without a clear warning to the driver. We only included vehicles in our testing that were equipped with a system that allows for the simultaneous use of ACC and LCA at highway speeds.

Norwegian vessels also offer lots of options for daytime fun but are particularly well known for evening entertainment. You'll find everything from music halls with Beatles cover bands and dueling piano bars to theaters with some of the most elaborate shows at sea — including some big-name Broadway productions. Skip winter and check into brighter days, warm turquoise waters and tangerine sunsets on a Caribbean cruise. We’ve added longer itineraries in addition to our shorter cruises— giving you more time to immerse in port and to soak up all the fun in the sun on shore.

In a typical summer, the line will deploy nearly half its ships to Europe while sending several more to the West Coast to sail to Alaska from Seattle; Vancouver, British Columbia; and Seward, Alaska. It'll also operate trips to Bermuda from New York City and Boston, usually with two ships, and trips to the Bahamas and the Caribbean out of Miami. Norwegian thus appeals both to cruisers who like a giant resort vibe and those who prefer something more modest.

That said, the line does offer some smaller ships that aren't quite as big and bustling as its giants. Choose from a wide-range of cruise vacations worldwide and turn your destination daydreams into a dream vacation. As well, there are charges for many things to do on the ships (such as Galaxy Pavilion and go-karts), which we’d like to see reduced or eliminated altogether.

The bigger Norwegian Encore, Norwegian Escape and Norwegian Bliss all have an 82-cabin solo complex, while two older ships — Norwegian Breakaway and Norwegian Getaway — have solo areas with 59 cabins. The line's two newest vessels, Norwegian Prima and Norwegian VIva, have 72-cabin solo complexes spread over two decks. For would-be Norwegian cruisers, Norwegian Sky's shorter sailings out of Miami serve as a sort of "test the line" opportunity. Their short time frame and low pricing mean you're not out a lot in time or money if you don't love it as much as you hoped. These shorter sailings cater heavily to first-time cruisers and Florida locals who can book on short notice and drive into the port for a quick escape.

They also get an additional point for every night booked through a Latitudes Rewards Insider Offer. That said, passengers who are 18 to 20 can purchase and consume beer or wine on ships in international waters with permission from parents or legal guardians. The parent or legal guardian must be on board and sign a waiver at guest services. The lower drinking age in international waters does not apply during sailings in Alaska and Hawaii. As is typical for big-ship cruise lines, Norwegian has an extensive children's program, with programs and activities for children as young as 6 months through the age of 17.

The key, depending on your tastes, is getting on the right ship in the fleet. However, Norwegian's 10 older ships are much more modest in size, measuring around 75,000 to 94,000 tons and carrying closer to 2,000 passengers at double occupancy. In short, if you want to turn a Norwegian cruise into a luxury experience, you can do that, too. Norwegian really is the line where you make the trip what you want it to be.

All vessels operate on a cashless system with any onboard purchases you make posting automatically to your onboard account. Pricing changes over time, but the fastest "premium" service on Norwegian vessels recently was priced at $39.99 per person per day, if you bought it in advance. Norwegian also offers a less expensive plan that doesn't allow video streaming for $29.99 per person per day if purchased in advance.

Norway’s distilleries and craft microbrewing scene is rapidly growing in cities like Bergen and Alesund. After decades of mostly serving lagers, microbrewers around the country wanted to offer more variety for beer drinkers, so they started to brew their own IPAs, pale ales, and stouts. Ever since, Norway’s cities have brewed hundreds of their own unique drafts. †Early Saver price of £699 per person is based on two adults sharing the lowest grade of Inside cabin available on cruise G527.

Hardangerfjord is the second-largest fjord in Norway, spanning 111 miles, roughly a 90-minute drive south of Bergen, on the country’s serrated fjord coastline. A more relaxing way to enjoy the views is from Hoven Restaurant, next to Loen Skylift, where a charcuterie platter, venison stew, and a salmon or veggie burger are among the pleasing dishes. The sweeping Innvikfjorden is another extraordinary Norway fjord, close to the mighty Jostedalsbreen National Park, mainland Europe’s largest glacier. Norway’s fjords are long and deep channels, often with many smaller branches—referred to as “arms”—reaching deeper into the landscape. The dramatic Geirangerfjord, for example, is a tributary of the Sunnylvsfjorden, which is an arm of the Storfjorden. Originally a Norwegian word describing a narrow inlet formed within a glacial valley, the term 'fjord' has since gone international.

Local meats, grains and vegetables are readily available along with some of the most incredible seafood. Be flexible with your Norway shore excursions.Norway is a terrific place for outdoor activities like kayaking, biking and hiking. However, rain is an often-unavoidable fact even during the country's drier summer months. Always have a backup plan for onshore activities and shore excursions in Norway in case of inclement weather. Take advantage when the sun is out, and, if it's raining, don't be afraid to push back an activity to later in the day -- often a rainy morning will turn sunny later on (or vice versa). Infinity .. Just a few thoughts from our recent cruise. Celebrity Cruises Cruise Critic Community

It looks to me like Hilton owns all the property in this section of the island. The trolley stops at the Hotel where you have an infinity pool, then the fishing pier where there are a couple shops, then Resorts World then the public beach. While on the topic of cleaning and maintenance... We found several "lights out" around the ship.... One light in the stairwell and one in one of the ladies rooms.

Wonderful salad bar and YES there is a fish and chips day. I tried the fish but did not care for the breading, too soggy and too much of it. I pulled it away and put the fish on my salad and it was delish! Dinner in the main dining room was very nice. The steak Diane was delish as well as the lobster an beef wellington.

Where does Celebrity Apex sail to?

You are lucky your A/C worked in your cabin and hallway,  and you did not have mildew in your shower stall and on the curtain.. Infinity is/ was a nice  cozy shp but needs a serious overhaul from inside out.

How much does it cost to go on Celebrity Apex?

We will be on the same itinerary in September and these ports are new to us except Key West so it is great to have reports from recent cruises. Seems like Resort World is the better option for Bimini especially with the pool since there have been some recent reports of jelly fish in the water. The ship also offers infinite verandas, staterooms that have a modified approach to the traditional balcony.

And while the 2,910-passenger ship is fancy, it's not stuffy – there's a relaxed vibe throughout. Speaking only for us, we wouldn't be concerned. Cruise line, food, entertainment, condition, age, size of the ship is subjective. We never book or not book a cruise based on someone else's positive or negative opinions or experiences.

We are on the Infinity right now. Save your money on le Petite Chef. It is great is when there are just a few guests. We tried it again on this cruise as we loved it in the past...it was awful.

Celebrity Apex shines when it comes to dining and nightlife, striking the right balance between fun, flair and familiar. The quality of food, no matter the restaurant, will make every passenger happy, whether you're seeking simple buffet fare or elaborate fine-dining.

Having said this who actually owns the beach club and/or developed it is still not clear. There definitely is joint agreements as to the usage. No where did we ever see any signs of Virgin in Bimini. This Resorts World is on the Hilton property.

Celebrity Reflection Dress Code

This gives passengers more internal square footage while offering a more customizable balcony experience. We are on our first Celebrity cruise on Infinity in October. Did the A/C on the ship overall seem to work fine? I know the first week or two people complained about it. We board Infinity a week from Saturday.

Reflection stands out with its exceptional variety of cabins, including its beautiful suites. They also receive complimentary access to Blu, which serves up healthier "spa cuisine." I am sorry we don't have any of the planners. We actually asked our attendant not to deliver them after the first day because everything is on the app. The only thing we found different was the "sale" papers that come in them. The sales are not listed on the app.

Particularly the buffet, MDR and bars. We sailed the second sailing and based on that I would have told anyone to run far far away from Infinity. Dinner near three hours most nights, just a few bar servers on the pool deck and only two bartenders at the pool bar so it was a long wait. No 'large' martini glasses so the martinis were half of their normal size. We also had a lot of issues with the shower in my cabin, it seemed to be leaking and every time the shower ran the carpet would get wet next to the bed. They offered to bring an industrial blower in but there was already no room in the cabin and I never could have slept with that.

The common ladies rooms were generally well kept. Some had attendants in them, some didn't. I love the hand towels and those were fresh. The crew was constantly cleaning.

I am happy to answer any questions you may have. Apex is also notable for its exceptional offerings to suite guests. The Celebrity Apex Retreat experience encompasses private and exclusive dining, a lounge and splendid sundeck, aimed at giving suite passengers seclusion and comfort. It's the perfect balance between luxury and big ship cruising. Apex also excels at innovation, with unique features like the heralded Magic Carpet, a cantilevered platform that juts from the side of the ship and can move up and down depending on its use. At the lowest deck, it serves as a gateway to ports, making embarkation and debarkation easy.
